Iced coffee is a coffee beverage that is served cold. It can be prepared by preparing the coffee normally (for example, in a jug, French press, etc.) and then serving it over ice or in cold milk, or by preparing the coffee cold. If it is prepared hot, sweeteners and flavorings can be added before cooling, since they dissolve more quickly. Iced coffee can also be sweetened with sugar previously dissolved in water.
Iced coffee is available in most coffee shops. In general, iced coffee is prepared with more strength than normal coffee, since it is diluted with melted ice. In Australia, “iced coffee” is a common term for a packaged beverage flavored with coffee and sweetened milk. Iced coffee is made by brewing hot coffee and pouring it over ice; iced coffee is prepared without heat by steeping coffee grounds in warm water.
These recipes date back to the end of the 19th century.
In Vietnam, iced coffee (Vietnamese: cà phê đá, lit. “iced coffee”) is a traditional Vietnamese recipe. It is made with medium to dark roasted coffee. The drink is prepared by passing hot water through the grounds into a cup already containing condensed milk. To serve it cold, ice is added to the cup.
Other variants consist of adding ice, sugar or condensed milk. A popular variant is cà phê sữa đá (or nâu đá in the north), which is an iced coffee served with sweetened condensed milk[22], which is done by putting two or three teaspoons
